A major gift is realized"'A $100,000 girt to the University of Sioux Falls? How we would like to be able to do that.' This was Helen's and my thinking back in 1992, when we first heard of the possibility. We were able to explore this plan more fully when we were asked to accompany Viola Chase to Vail, Colorado, where as guest of USF we would hear the details of such a major gift program. We heard attorney David Nielsen present the plan, and we liked it. Helen and I probably wouldn't have had $100,000 to give as one girt, but we could make a premium payment of much smaller amounts over a period of time. It is amazing how affordable it has been, plus we receive a significant charitable deduction that affectively lowered the premium payments even further. My good wife, Helen, preceded me in making this policy collectable, but I will be making the last few premium payments soon. We did it—made a major gift to USF. I praise God for the privilege." Rev. Palmer Swenson is a retired American Baptist minister. He worked at the University of Sioux Falls for five years in the early 1950s as Assistant to the President, where his main responsibility was recruiting students.
